Diving
Diving The Kilkee Diving & Watersports Centre is a fully equipped diving centre with facilities for novices and experts alike. In 1999, the centre became the first dive school to be recognised by the Irish Underwater Council (CFT) Training Course. Previously, training courses were only held within clubs, however, now prospective divers can complete their training in the centre to either trainee diver or club diver standard and then join one of the 84 clubs in Ireland. The training they receive will be to the same high standard that CFT divers have been renowned world-wide. It is possible to dive all year around although the best months are April to October with depths from 32 ft (10m) to 147ft (45m) found around the coast. The crystal clear waters of the bay have a Europe-wide reputation for the variety of dives and the diversity of marine life. The centre is located on the seafront. Snorkelling, sailing and board-sailing are also available with instruction.
Dolphin Watching
Dolphin watching Each two hour dolphin watching boat trip from Carrigaholt, is an opportunity to see and learn about Bottlenose Dolphins as they interact with each other in their native habitat.
This Special Area of Conservation is home to about 140 dolphins and calves, the largest resident group in Europe. The rugged and beautiful coastline at the Mouth of the Shannon provides nesting ledges for a variety of seabirds such as fulmars, guillemots and cormorants as well as rare coastal species like choughs, peregrines and ravens. The storm beaches attract breeding grey seals and we are often privileged to watch the rapid development of the seal pups in the late summer and autumn.
A beautifully designed passenger boat provides superb viewing for everyone on board. The hydrophone (underwater microphone) lets you listen to live dolphin sounds, when conditions allow. There is also a bar and toilet facilities on board. Experienced and friendly crews are qualified marine naturalists to answer any questions and look after your comfort and safety.
Golf
Golf Kilkee's 18-Hole championship quality golf course is situated on the road towards George's Head and stretches along the spectacular cliffs. In 1963, a new clubhouse was constructed and includes changing rooms, bar, kitchen, restaurant, veranda shelter and two car parks. Green fees are moderate at this friendly club and visitors are always welcome. Clubs & caddycars are available to hire and caddies may be booked.
